If you are serious about breast-feeding, this Medela pump is a great investment. I purchased one approximately 5 years ago with my first child. I used that one for 16 months, taking it back and forth to work, using it 2-3 times a day. It still works! This time around, finding this pump on a great sale, I decided to invest in a second pump to lessen the load carried from work each day.

This is the third breastpump I've owned. I had the Ameda and the Avent previously. This, by far, is the most efficient. I am currently pumping over 80 ounces a day for my twins and you can only imagine the time investment required for keeping up with that demand. The Medela Pump in Style Advanced Breast comes with all the basics you will need to start breast-feeding. It operates quietly, with an initial let-down phase that you can shorten by pressing a button if needed. The suction is adjustable. Everything fits neatly into the bag. Extra bottles, shields, etc are easier than ever to find on Amazxx or in many other settings.

Although the shape of the bottles has changed during the past five years, they work just the same. Aside from keeping shields and bottles clean, it is virtually maintenance free. Overall, I am pleased with this product and highly recommend it. Other pumps may be less expensive but in this instance I believe you get what you pay for.

I would recommend this pump for the following reasons:

1. Since Medela is the gold standard of breast pump brands, additional parts can easily and readily be obtained without online ordering. My hospital had Medela pump parts in stock. Parts can also be readily obtained at Target.
2. It efficiently pumps both breasts simultaneously in about 15 minutes instead of 30. I needn't tell you the value of an extra 15 minutes while caring for a baby or while pumping at work.
3. The motor is extremely quiet and discrete.
4. The on-the-go tote makes the pump convenient to transport with all its accessories without advertising to the world that you're toting around a breast pump.
5. The adjustable suction allows you to set the pump to your optimum suction level (and comfort level) to efficiently express the most milk in the least amount of time.
6. The pump automatically starts out faster to stimulate let-down and then automatically slows down to mimic a baby's longer, slower suckling once let-down has occurred. There is a button to turn the pump's let-down setting on or off as needed.

I have two recommendations to make the Medela pumping experience a less stressful one:

• Ensure you are using the appropriate size of flange. Otherwise, your nipples will make you regret it. Flanges that are too small will rub your nipples raw and result in less milk being expressed.
• Buy extra membranes to have on hand. These are small, silicone parts that will inevitably rip early and often as you take the pump apart to clean it. The pump does come with one extra set of membranes.
